Concrete Grinding & Crack Repair
The prep work every good coating depends on — mechanical diamond grinding, crack and spall repair, stem wall coatings, and moisture evaluation, done before a single drop of epoxy goes down.
Mechanical grinding vs. acid etching
Acid etching is the fast, cheap way to prep a concrete floor — and the reason so many DIY and bargain coating jobs peel within a year or two. Acid only lightly roughens the surface. Mechanical diamond grinding actually opens the concrete's pores, giving the coating a real mechanical bond instead of a shallow chemical one. It's slower and more labor-intensive, which is exactly why cut-rate crews skip it. We don't.
Crack, pit & spall repair
Cracks, pits, and spalling (surface flaking, often from freeze-thaw damage or old de-icing salt) get patched and leveled before any base coat goes down — a coating applied over unrepaired damage just telegraphs the same crack back through in a year.
Stem walls & moisture evaluation
- Stem wall coatings extend the finish up the foundation wall for a cleaner, more finished look.
- Concrete moisture evaluation before coating — moving forward on a slab with excess moisture is one of the most common causes of coating failure.
